Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate not only the financial need to pursue their dance education but the commitment and desire to grow as an artist by attending weekly ballet classes and performing in MYB productions. Dancers who wish to be considered for either a full or partial scholarship must submit a letter requesting assistance as well as narrative describing the students’ interests and aspirations in dance and an explanation of financial need.

Students may also be eligible for a work-study scholarship for which the student will complete studio-related tasks in exchange for tuition assistance. All scholarship and work-study students are expected to participate in both annual ballet productions and are required to participate in all fundraising endeavors sponsored by MYB.

Buovo A. Serianni Memorial Scholarship

Buovo A. Serianni, grandfather of Nadia Porter, was an active community member in his hometown of Roebling, New Jersey. Throughout his life, Mr. Serianni spent countless hours selflessly giving back to his community through his volunteer efforts with the Roebling Volunteer Fire Company #3 and the Roebling Rescue Squad. “Puddin,” as he was affectionately called, was also an avid supporter of the arts. He participated in activities with the Florence Township Memorial High School Bands and even provided partnering assistance for pas de deux classes with Hamilton Ballet Theatre. Never missing one of their performances, Mr. Serianni showed unwavering support for the artistic endeavors of his grandchildren. Buovo also played an instrumental role in providing them with the means to continue their arts education in music and dance at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

“Without the support of my grandfather, bringing my dreams for this ballet company and school would have never have become a reality. So future arts enthusiasts can pursue their dreams, the Buovo A. Serianni Memorial Scholarship has been established to perpetuate the memory of ‘Grandpop’ and to provide students demonstrating desire and need with financial assistance to continue their dance training with the Mid Atlantic Youth Ballet and Center for Dance Education.”
